Cost of sending letter to the UK to rise by 8.3%
BBCThe cost of sending a letter from the Isle of Man to the United Kingdom is set to rise by 8.3%.
Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) confirmed the standard-sized letter price would increase from £1 to £1.08 as part of its latest tariff changes.
The new charges, set to be implemented from late January, will see the standard local letter price rise from 90p to 93p – a 3.3% increase in line with inflation.
IOMPO said the increases would "ensure services remain value for money, sustainable and aligned with international postal regulations".
The organisation posted a profit of £3.58m in the last financial year - an increase of £1.25m on 2023-24 - after making cost efficiencies.
IOMPOThe latest increases followed "improvements" including online postage with free doorstep collection, IOMPO said, along with an ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon emissions.
It said the price of international mail services would be updated to "comply with new Royal Mail and Universal Postal Union rules".
However, tracked parcel prices available through the online postage service would remain unchanged "to support affordable, reliable delivery for homes and businesses".
IOMPO chairman Stu Peters MHK said the changes would "help us keep services reliable, competitive, and aligned with international standards".
"We are committed to adapting to customer needs and exploring compliant innovative solutions that support sustainability and convenience for our island community," he added.
The date for the new tariffs to come into effect will be confirmed soon, IOMPO said.
