The views of young people, parents, carers and support organisations have been incorporated in a council's new youth strategy.

Telford and Wrekin Council said it wanted to enhance youth activities, including clubs and youth support in the area.

The authority said it had taken on board suggestions made during a consultation over recent months and wanted young people to have a say on the services provided.

It said it was "nationally recognised that providing youth services outside of the classroom can have a positive impact on young people's development, wellbeing and life chances".

In a report it said the assessment it carried out found that "while there are some great activities and youth clubs in the borough, not everyone can access them easily".

Young people also told the council they wanted "more local, affordable, and varied activities like sports, gaming, music, and creative sessions".

The council said it learned many young people did not know the services available to them and that some children with the most needs had "very little provision".

On top of that, it said there was a need for mental health support and safe spaces.
