Female staff threatened with knife in shop robbery

Two female staff members were threatened with a knife during an armed robbery in a shop in Magheralin, County Down.

The incident happened at around 17:40 GMT on Friday at a shop on New Forge Road.

Police said a man entered the shop and seemed to browse for a few minutes before approaching the till with a knife.

He then demanded money from the staff members and managed to take a sum of cash from the till.

The man left the shop and made off in the direction of Dromore.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

The coastguard said several onlookers tried to help, including one who had gone into the water on Saturday.

The police arrested an average of nine people per day during their campaign.
