Residents had to be evacuated from their homes after a lorry caused a gas leak by crashing into a building.

Devon and Cornwall Police asked locals in Buckfastleigh, Devon, to shut windows and doors on Friday morning after a lorry hit the side of a building and a parked van at Higher Mill Lane.

Wales & West Utilities said a gas service pipe supplying a commercial property was damaged. It said engineers stopped the leak "quickly and safely".

No injuries were reported and residents have now returned to their houses.
