A man who claims he was raped and deliberately given HIV when he was 15 years old cannot bear to say the name of his alleged attacker, a court has heard.

The man, now in his 20s, said he was getting off the school bus when he got a call from a sexual health clinic to say he had contracted the virus, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Adam Hall, 43, denies raping the man and four others and seven counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, with prosecutors alleging he met men online and at bars in Newcastle.

In a video with police shown to jurors, the man said Mr Hall was one of two men he had sex with but the other man had been cleared as a source for the infection.

Prosecutors have said Mr Hall knew he was HIV positive, having been diagnosed in 2010, but did not tell sexual partners, did not use protection and did not take the drugs he should have to make him non-infectious.

The man, whose identity cannot be revealed, is the fourth of Mr Hall's alleged victims to give evidence in the trial, which began more than three weeks ago.

'Cried in school toilets'

In an interview with officers, the victim said he could not say Mr Hall's name as the "whole situation" made him feel "nauseous", so he instead referred to his alleged attacker as AH.

He said he was 15 when he met Mr Hall and another man for sex in a threesome, during which Mr Hall was "aggressive" and "hands on" with the other man.

The man said he decided he did not want to have sex but "just let it happen so I could go home", adding he was relying on Mr Hall to give him a lift.

He said he met Mr Hall again to talk about what happened and the pair had sex in the back of the defendant's car.

Several weeks later he went for tests, which revealed he had chlamydia and gonorrhoea and possibly HIV, the court heard.

"I was in the school toilets bawling my eyes out thinking I potentially had HIV," the man said.

'Other man non-infectious'

Further tests were done and he said he could still remember the time and date when he got those results confirming he had HIV.

He said it was 15:36 on a Thursday and he was just getting off the school bus when he got the call, adding he "went home and absolutely sobbed".

The man said he contacted Mr Hall again to talk about what happened but Mr Hall, who "lied" and said he was 25 and married with five children, just said the man's account "wasn't the case at all" and then blocked him.

The man said Mr Hall was the only person he slept with over that time period, before adding he had had sex with the other man involved in the threesome.

He said the other man did have HIV but was taking medication to keep it at an undetectable level, meaning he was not infectious at the time, and the complainant had seen evidence to support that claim.

The trial continues.
