The Henrys are travelling the world for the next 12 months

A family's lockdown dream of travelling the world together has become a reality after years of saving.

Craig and Alli Henry, from Whitehaven, Cumbria, will be travelling the world with their daughter Summer for the next year.

They left their Corkickle home earlier this month and are currently in Oaxaca, Mexico, and have ambitions to reach the Philippines, Borneo and Indonesia, to name a few.

"[During Covid] we realised that when things got back to normal we would be back in the swing of working all the time and living for the weekend so we just decided that we wanted to spend more time as a family," Alli said.

They spent the last three years saving up to be able to afford the trip.

Craig has now resigned from his job and Alli has taken a career break, but Summer will continue to learn while she travels, although she is away from her year three classmates.

"I keep putting her in detention every day, she's not used to that," joked Craig.

The family are documenting their trip on social media and post videos under the handle Marratravels.

Marra is a Cumbrian world meaning pal or mate.

Alli said she wanted to have videos of their trip for Summer to look back on, but they racked up thousands of followers.

"We've always watched a lot of YouTube and that's where the original idea came, from watching other people doing similar things, but we've not seen many families like us do it."

The Henry's first destination was Mexico

The Henrys each have a bucket list of places they would like to visit, but have no firm plans in place.

"We've got a rough itinerary, but we've only literally got the next two weeks planned," Alli said.

"We didn't map it all out and plan it all because if we like somewhere and we want to stay or if we don't like somewhere and we want to move on, we want to have that flexibility."

She added they were also taking recommendations from people they meet along the way.

"We're just going to take it as it comes and see see what works for us as a family."
