A man has died after the car he was driving crashed off the road and hit a fence.

The 44-year-old was behind the wheel of a blue Audi RS3 when it came off the A650 Wakefield Road near Drighlington shortly after 21:05 GMT on Saturday.

West Yorkshire Police said two passengers who were in the car suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The force said early inquiries suggested the Audi "may have been being driving at speed alongside another vehicle, a grey Mercedes AMG E63," prior to the collision.

A police spokesperson said a 17-year old boy, and two men, aged 22 and 41,have been arrested arrested in connection with the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the Audi or Mercedes cars travelling between Lockwood Way in Leeds and the site of the collision is asked to contact police.
