The UK staff will be undergoing induction and familiarisation training this week

The Ambulance and Rescue Service says it will be strengthening its resilience in Alderney over the next few weeks with the temporary addition of agency clinicians from the UK.

They will help maintain normal services as short-term cover for sickness absence and gaps in staffing, the service said.

The UK staff will be undergoing an induction and familiarisation training this week, before starting operational duties.

The service has also recruited two new full-time crew members, who will take up their position in the new year, increasing year-round operational resourcing in the island.

Aimee Lihou, head of quality and patient safety, and the senior officer responsible for Alderney said: "The use of agency staff is a temporary measure designed to ensure resilience over the winter months, when we know health services can experience an increase in demand.

"We have been planning to expand the size of the Alderney team to improve resilience on a more permanent basis and I am pleased to say that we have successfully filled our current vacancies, so we will be expanding the team to five staff early in 2026.

"The first of those new recruits is already undergoing training in Guernsey, with a second person due to begin their training in January."
