The Met Office has issued a warning for ice for most of mainland Scotland.

The yellow warning begins at 18:00 on Tuesday and ends at 10:00 on Wednesday and is the latest in a series of weather alerts since the start of the year.

Forecasters said ice would form on untreated surfaces, particularly in places where snow had melted. Wintry showers are also expected overnight.

North and north-east Scotland had previously seen days of snowfall, while heavy rain and melting snow had caused flooding in some areas.

The latest weather warning covers large parts of Scotland, including Highlands, Aberdeenshire, Tayside, Fife and Dumfries and Galloway.

The Met Office warned that ice could make roads and pavements slippy.

The recent bad weather closed hundreds of schools in the north-east, and disrupted the return to classrooms after the Christmas break for pupils in the Highlands.
