Arrest after man dies in car crash with tree

A man has died after a car crashed into a tree, police said.

A black BMW collided with a tree at about 13:45 GMT on Saturday at Rode Common, on the junction of the A361 and Rode Hill near Frome, Somerset.

Emergency services attended but the front seat passenger died at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed and will be supported by a specialist officer.

Avon and Somerset Police said a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, after receiving treatment in hospital. He remains in police custody.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact the police.
