Four schools were closed and 4,000 homes were left without water by a burst water main.

Welsh Water said it had been working overnight to repair the main in Abergavenny, which had been "damaged by a third party".

Monmouthshire council said King Henry VIII, Ysgol Y Fenni, Our Lady and St Michael's RC schools were closed on Tuesday.

The water company apologised and said the burst water main, near Brecon Road, had been fixed by the early afternoon.

Welsh Water said: "This initially impacted supplies to over 4,000 customers."

Even though the water main has now been fixed, bottled water stations will remain until all supplies have been restored.
