Daytime closure of town's bypass for five weeks
GoogleA main road in Cheshire is being closed during the daytime for five weeks for safety improvement work.
A signal controlled toucan crossing is being installed, street lightning improved, and the speed limit reduced on the approach to Peacock roundabout on the A51 Nantwich bypass.
Work is set to start on Monday, and will largely take place on weekdays between 09:30 and 15:30 GMT, said Cheshire East Council.
Diversion routes would be clearly signed, but delays were expected and drivers should plan their journeys, the council warned.
New signage, road markings and upgrades to the footway and cycleway would also be completed during the work, the council said.
The closure of the bypass during the scheme was needed for safety, but pedestrian, cyclist and emergency service access would be maintained, businesses would stay open and waste collections would not be affected, it stated.
Staff will be available on site during the works to provide advice and assistance, the authority added.
The diversion routes while the A51 is closed at Peacock roundabout can be seen here.
