Hundreds of people were classed as "houseless" which meant they had a temporary place to sleep in institutional or shelter accommodation

More men than women were homeless in Jersey last year, a new report has found.

The latest Homelessness in Jersey report, which covers 1 July to 30 September 2025, found 73% of homeless islanders were men, 25% were women and 2% were other gender identity.

It found there were 344 service visits by 333 people, and 280 people were classed as being "houseless", which meant they had a temporary place to sleep in institutional or shelter accommodation.

Alcohol and drug use was the main recorded reason for homelessness among men at 17% of cases, the report found. At risk of, has experienced, or is escaping domestic abuse was the main recorded reason for homelessness among women at 29% of cases.

Service providers recorded the employment status of 328 people and found 96 of them were employed.

It found 13 people were retired, 199 were unemployed and the remaining people were either in part-time employment or in education.

The largest group recorded as homeless by age for men was 46 to 55 years old, and for women was up to 25 years old, said the report.

There were more than 480 reasons for homelessness recorded by four service providers which included substance use, mental health problems, and accommodation changes, the report added.
