Police watchdog investigates e-bike pursuit crash
A 29-year-old man who was injured while riding a suspected stolen electric bike during a police chase in Liverpool is under arrest in hospital.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a man remains under investigation following a road traffic collision in Kensington on Tuesday."
He added emergency services had been called to Stamford Street at about 15:25 GMT following reports of a suspected stolen Sur-Ron bike being in collision with a police car after a brief pursuit. The chase followed reports of a man being speeding on pavements in the area.
As part of a mandatory protocol, Merseyside Police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The rider, from Wavertree, was initially arrested on suspicion of multiple road traffic offences then de-arrested in order to be taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
The IOPC said: "We are assessing a referral from Merseyside Police to determine whether an investigation is required."
