A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Epsom.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a Ford Fiesta in Epsom High Street shortly before 07:30 GMT on Wednesday.

A 24-year-old man, from Redhill, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, Surrey Police said.

The road remains closed between the junctions of Church Street and Ashley Road while officers investigate. A section of Ashley Road is also shut.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage, is urged to contact the force.
