Man charged after police attacked in city centre

GoogleA man has been charged after police officers were attacked in Derby city centre.
Derbyshire Police said it was called to St Peter's Street at about 13:00 BST on Friday to reports of a man carrying a spade.
Jamie Birks, of no fixed address, was arrested and subsequently charged with five counts of assaulting emergency workers and criminal damage.
The force said the 37-year-old was remanded into custody after appearing before magistrates on Saturday. He is due to appear at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates' Court on 21 October.
