A man has died in a flat fire in south London.

Some 30 firefighters and five fire engines were deployed to an 11-storey residential block on Dorset Road in Oval shortly after midnight.

The man was declared dead at the scene after being found in a first floor maisonette by firefighters.

The fire, which was under control by 01:30 BST, is being investigated by the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
