A man has been taken to hospital after being injured in what was likely a "targeted attack", police said.

The incident happened when the victim was driving along the B5062 close to Crugtone Way in Crudgington, north of Telford, at about 17:30 GMT on Friday.

Aged in his 40s, he pulled over and was approached by another man who opened his car door and used a bladed article, leaving the victim with minor injuries, West Mercia Police said.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or those with dash-cam footage to get in contact.

The suspect, who had been driving a dark-coloured van, is described as black, about 6ft tall and wearing dark clothing.

"We understand an incident of this nature can cause alarm, but I would like to reassure the public that our initial inquiries show this was likely a targeted attack," Det Sgt Steve Miller said.

"We would also like to hear of anyone who may have witnessed the assault or may have dash-cam footage that captures the incident or the van described."

Information can also be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers, the force said.
