People on the Isle of Man have been urged to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of September's House of Keys general election.

The Cabinet Office has launched its annual electoral canvass, calling on residents to update their details, which includes confirming eligibility for jury service.

Everyone aged 16 or over who has lived on the island for at least 12 months must ensure they are correctly registered to vote by updating their details online or via a letter sent to each household.

The paper forms must be returned by 19 March, while the new online system allows voters to link their registration to their government services account for easier updates.

The canvass also confirms jury service eligibility. Recent changes have removed many automatic exemptions, meaning a broader cross-section could now be called.

Details are included with the canvass and available online.

Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford said modernising the process "puts people first" and ensures democracy and fairness in both elections and jury duty.

"Our plans are to continue to streamline the electoral registration process with ongoing improvements to ensure the system remains robust and cost effective in the future," he said.
