A fish and chip shop has been robbed at knifepoint in Harrogate.

North Yorkshire Police said a man ordered a portion of chips at Dougie's, on King Edward's Drive, paying with a £5 note, just after 19:00 GMT on Saturday.

Officers said he then jumped over the counter, wielding a bread knife, and emptied the till of about £300 to £400, before fleeing on foot towards Albany Avenue.

The man was described as being about 6ft tall, white and overweight, and said he was wearing light blue long-sleeved t-shirt with plain black tracksuit trousers.

A force spokesperson said they were carrying out "extensive enquiries".

"Our investigation remains ongoing today and we're urging anyone who has information and has yet to come forward to get in touch."
