Man shot in 'targeted' city centre attack
MENA man is in hospital after being shot during a city centre attack in Manchester's gay village.
The man, who is 20s, was shot in the leg in Richmond Street at about 05:00 GMT with his injuries not believed to be life-changing.
Six men, aged between 23 and 26 have been arrested, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
GMP, who believe the attack was targeted, said the attack was not a hate crime and a gun had been discovered close to where the injured man was found.
The six men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences and remain in police custody for questioning.
Supt Stephen Wiggins, from GMP, said: "This will undoubtedly be a concerning incident to be waking up to, not just for those who live and work in the city centre, but for the whole of Greater Manchester."
He added officers believed it was a "targeted incident" and there was "no wider threat to the general public".
He appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to contact police.
Carl Austin-Behan, vice chair of the Village License Business Association, said he wanted to "reassure" people it was "not a targeted attack on Manchester Gay Village or our community".
"With the help of GMP carrying out extra patrols and the LGBT Foundation Village Angels supported by all the venues management and door staff, Manchester Gay Village is a safe and welcoming space for everybody," he added.
