A pharmaceuticals specialist getting suited and booted to appear on The Apprentice TV series says representing the Medway Towns is "mind-blowing" and he wants to make everyone proud.

Rajan Gill, who will compete to be Lord Alan Sugar's business partner, wants backing for his firm which mounts TVs and builds bespoke media walls, focusing on new-builds.

He said he had worked in pharmaceuticals and construction and knew "both sides of business - the boardroom and the physical graft".

"I was born and raised in Medway. All my family are here," he said. "To be able to represent Kent and Medway itself is just mind-blowing."

He said: "I really hope I do everyone proud and hopefully don't make too much of a fool of myself."

'Packed in nine-to-five'

Gill said worked in pharmaceuticals for about six or seven years, but during that time, he started working on TV mounting in the evenings.

"It started off as a side hustle I suppose," he said.

But, he added: "It just grew and I got to the point where I was fortunate enough to be able to pack in my nine-to-five career and focus on this full-time, which is really, really exciting."

He said people were often hesitant about putting heavy equipment on plasterboard walls, but that it was "completely safe" with specialist materials and a specialist team.

Gill's pitch to Lord Sugar will be that over 200,000 newbuilds are being constructed every year, which is a "fantastic opportunity" for the billionaire businessman, he says.

The contestant said: "He needs to be a part of this business now to get dominance within this market.

"So many people are struggling with things like this, and I am offering the answer."

The Apprentice returns to iPlayer and BBC One from Thursday.
