Passengers will receive a musical welcome at Guernsey Airport

Travellers arriving at Guernsey Airport are being serenaded by island choirs to get the Christmas break off to a festive start.

More than 21,000 people were expect to pass through the airport during the festive fortnight to 2 January, bosses said.

Choirs are performing in the arrivals lounge during busy travel periods in the run-up to Christmas.

They would be raising money for charity and aimed to "create a warm and memorable welcome" for passengers, the airport said.

David Buddery, the airport's commercial development project manager, said: "We hope the initiative will not only spread Christmas cheer, but also highlight the important work of local charities at one of the island's busiest times of year."

Classically trained opera singer and music therapist Aindré Reece-Sheerin will provide the musical entertainment between 13:00 GMT and 14:00.

The Ladies College Choir will be greeting tourists and people coming home for Christmas between 15:30 and 16:30.
