Tourism brought in more than £4bn into East and West Sussex throughout 2024, a report said.

The study by the organisation Experience Sussex said there were more than 50 million trips into the two counties during the year.

Overnight stays brought in almost £1.4bn, day trips £1.6bn, while overseas staying visitors contributed £356m.

The figures were compiled for East and West Sussex county councils, and therefore do not include the major tourist attraction of Brighton and Hove.

Penny di Cara, East Sussex County Council's lead member for economy, said: "It is hugely encouraging to see the growth in overseas visitor numbers and their overnight stays to Sussex last year, and the important contribution this makes to the region's economy."

Garry Wall, West Sussex County Council's cabinet member for economic development said: "Sussex has a world class offer with some of the finest places to visit, stay, and experience in the UK."
