A commemorative walk to mark the 245th anniversary of the Battle of Jersey is set to take place later.

Led by historian Ian Ronayne, the walk follows in the footsteps of the Jersey militia who marched to defend the island against invading French forces on 6 January 1781.

The 6.5-mile (10.5km) walk is due to start at Grouville Church at 08:30 GMT and head to La Rocque Harbour before ending in the Royal Square in St Helier with a commemorative ceremony.

Ronayne said: "But for the actions of brave British and Jersey soldiers, we could now be part of another country and speaking a different language".
