EV charging network to expand over three years
PA MediaMore than 1,500 new electric vehicle (EV) charge points will be installed in north Northamptonshire over the next three years, the local council has said.
North Northamptonshire Council is partnering with private company Connected Kerb to expand the current network of about 525 public charge points.
The project is supported by the Department for Transport's local electric vehicle infrastructure fund, with additional private investment from Connected Kerb.
The Reform UK-led local authority said the investment would help to "ensure more people have the option to make the switch to an EV when the time is right for them".
The scheme aims to cater for the estimated 30% of households without a private driveway, one of the main barriers when switching to EVs.
Fully accessible bays will be provided in car parks, while on-street charging will allow some drivers to plug in close to home.
"We're proud to partner with North Northamptonshire Council on one of the most ambitious EV charging programmes in the region," said Connected Kerb chief executive Chris Pateman-Jones.
Residents can find their nearest on-street charging point or register interest in new sites on the council's website.
