One of Guernsey's independent schools met all required standards in a recent inspection.

Elizabeth College had eight inspectors from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) assess the pre-school, the junior school and the upper school.

The ISI framework requires a school to meet standards in areas such as leadership and management, pupils' education, training and recreation, pupils' physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, their social and economic wellbeing and contribution to society, and safeguarding.

Principal Jenny Palmer says: "I am really pleased with this inspection report which confirms the strengths of our provision at Elizabeth College."

The ISI inspects independent schools in England and British schools overseas.

Its report highlighted the strength of the college's leadership, management and governance.

It says: "Pupils make good progress throughout the school and are well prepared for their next stage of education or future careers."

The junior school was also commended for how it develops students' understanding of their emotions.

There were two recommendations on how the school can develop further:

  • Ensure that teaching in the junior school consistently meets pupils' needs through an appropriate range of methods and activities
  • Ensure that the current programme of site refurbishments is completed in a timely manner.

In response to these, Palmer said: "We welcome the recommendations, which align with internally identified development priorities, and we remain focused on continuous improvement to ensure the very best outcomes for every child at Elizabeth College.

"This report reflects the commitment of our outstanding staff, the support and challenge provided by our directors, and the engagement of our pupils, students and parents. I am grateful to them all."
