Part of a busy road in Hull city centre will be closed for work on gas pipes, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has confirmed.

One lane of Ferensway will shut for six weeks between Pearson Street and Spring Bank from 6 January.

The work will see engineers replace ageing metal pipes with more durable plastic ones.

NGN said it had worked with Hull City Council to plan for the project and some traffic management measures would be put in place.

Chris Keith from NGN said: "We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.

"However, it's vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses in Hull."

Work is scheduled to finish on 14 February.
