A two-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

It happened on O'Leary Street in Warrington at about 17:00 GMT on Tuesday, Cheshire Police said.

The driver of the black Volkswagen Scirocco involved, a 66-year-old woman, was uninjured.

The child was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Her injuries were not thought to be life threatening, the force added.

Inquiries were continuing and witnesses have been urged to contact police.
