Classic Ford Mustangs roar into castle's grounds

A celebration of the iconic Ford Mustang has been held in the grounds of a castle in the Scottish Borders.

A large crowd turned out to see more than 1,000 classic, vintage and historic cars at Thirlestane Castle near Lauder on Sunday.

The Borders Vintage Automobile Club (BVAC) Classic Festival of Motoring celebrated 60 years of the Ford Mustang with a special display.

Hundreds of other classic cars from more than 60 different clubs took part in the event.

The best in show was awarded to a 1926 Vauxhall 30/98 owned by George Muir, from Kirkcaldy.

There was also live motorsport action, courtesy of the Scottish Summer Hill Rally, which gave visitors the chance to see dozens of cars setting off for a special stage in the grounds of Thirlestane Castle.

It was contested over 70 stage miles in total and was won by Ian Gregg and co-driver Jason Noakes in their Polaris Pro R rally car.

A range of other entertainment was on offer and plans are already in place for the next event in early June 2025.

Organisers said they had been absolutely delighted to welcome a "bumper crowd" to the castle grounds as well as enjoying the classic cars and other attractions.
