Man, 84, charged with historic child sex offences
Peter Byrne/BBCAn 84-year-old man has been charged with 47 historic child sexual offences.
The alleged offences took place between the late 1960s and 2010 in locations including London, Kent, Portugal, Turkey and Hungary, according to the Metropolitan Police.
They relate to nine separate men, who were aged between eight and 14 at the time.
Edward Sweeney, of Welbeck Avenue, Sidcup, south-east London, has been charged with three counts of rape of a child under 13, 27 counts of indecent assault, five counts of indecency and seven counts of sexual assault of a child and five counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on 9 February.
