A former finalist in the junior event at Roland Garros, Suarez comes into her own during the clay-court season.
Last season, she reached the French Open quarter-finals, making herself unpopular with the home fans by beating France's top three Sandrine Testud, Amelie Mauresmo and Nathalie Dechy.
At the same tournament she defended the doubles title with Virginia Ruano-Pascual and later in 2002 the pair also picked up the US Open doubles title.
Those achievements saw Suarez become the world's number one doubles player and she and her Spanish partner also picked up the WTA award for doubles team of the year.
Her singles form this season has been patchy but she impressed in Sarasota in April when she beat top seed Jelena Dokic in the first round before reaching the last eight.
