Having endured a frustrating 2002 season, Shaughnessy is back in form this year.

The 24-year-old captured her first Tour singles title at Shanghai in 2000 and reached the world's top 20 in May the following year.

But having established herself as a promising young American, Shaughnessy stuttered last season, the result of injury and loss of form, and managed to beat only one top five player all year.

But 2003 began with a bang for the durable baseliner as she rocketed to her third WTA title in Canberra - without dropping a set.

She has since reached the semi-finals in Scottsdale, the fourth round in Indian Wells and the quarter-finals in Miami.
