Schnyder's renaissance is as impressive as it is suprising.

The Swiss player appeared to be destined never to fulfil her enormous talent when she slid down the rankings from a high of eighth after linking up with controversial faith healer Rainer Harnecker in 1999.

But the 24-year-old is back on track and she enjoyed a successful 2002, which culminated in an emotional title win in Zurich over Lindsay Davenport.

She has not had the best of times in 2003, losing early in Paris, Indian Wells, Sarasota and Charleston.

And her clay-court form in Europe has not been spectcular.

However, having reached the 1998 French Open quarter-finals, before the temporary blip in her progress, Schnyder has proved that she has the game to cause problems at Roland Garros.
