Despite improving her ranking significantly last season, Stevenson remains an enigma.

She began last year outside the top 50 and ended inside the top 20, having reached her first WTA final and won more than 30 matches for the first time in her career.

But while the American has the ability to beat anyone on her day, she is just as likely to succumb to an embarrassing defeat.

Now 22, she will hope to find some consistency this season and also pick up her first trophy.

Surprisingly, considering her most memorable achievement is reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 1999, Stevenson has rarely brought her A-game to Grand Slam events.

Since that astounding achievement at Wimbledon, she has won only three Grand Slam matches and is still seeking her first win at Roland Garros.
