Newtion Matthews

Aged 18, Newtion left home to pursue a music career but had no luck, ran out of cash and found himself homeless for two months. He found life on the streets ‘terrifying and soul destroying’, and slept rough with no food, often busking for money. After The Prince’s Trust gave him invaluable advice, Newtion turned his life around. He also currently performs in a male vocal harmony group called The Incs. We’re pleased you’re back on your feet Newtion!

Favourite unusual food combination: “I love chicken nuggets dipped in a strawberry milkshake. Also rice and ice together, and hot sauce on everything!”

If you could change your name to anything what would it be? “I have always wanted a crazy name like ‘Xavi’ or ‘Moonbeam’.”

What are you most proud of? “Getting off the streets and into a hostel. Also, getting into drama school.”

Celebrity impressions: “I used to do a good Louis Armstrong impression when I was a kid.”

Most embarrassing moment: “I was singing in a school assembly and my fly was down the whole time.”

Celebrity resemblances: “With a shaved head I look like Tinie Tempah, with mid-length hair I get told Sir Trevor Macdonald, and with an afro, Labrinth.”
