Off to the new Greenzone movie with Matt Damon and then to 5 Live for an unusual afternoon. Our usual film show won't be live as Tony Blair at the Chilcott inquiry has taken over. So we will be live streamed on line, while recording an hour of wittertainment to be broadcast at 9 tonight. Is that clear? Oh well, we'll stumble along and all will become clear.
And then back to Radio 2 and it's only slowly dawning on me that this Drivetime thing is my show for real and I'm not just filling in. And what a great feeling that is. It's the end of week 3 and I love doing this show. Love it more than chocolate itself. And we have the small matter of an all request Friday from 5, so your ideal song would be what? By who? Leave your top ideas below and we'll pick one later.
Email [email protected] or follow me on Twitter or Facebook.
See you at 5...
Loved the wah wah Wednesday yesterday and the suggestion from a listener that all cars should have one. Imagine how much more fun music listening would be if you could wah everything. Over to you Trevor Baylis, Sir James Dyson et al.
Well a strong campaign to get a Theremin Thursday going and we may well return to it but an absence of big Theremin hits got in the way really. So Flute Fursday it is and lets have those hits with flautists to the fore please...
Plenty of food around today as Nigel returns (breathless, sweaty and at the last minute) with another Drivetime special for you to try. Dont forget the Foodie Text Club details on this site and requests you might have for Nigel to tackle in future.
See you at 5. Have a great day.

To the Costa book awards last night have realised I need to read more poetry. Or some poetry even. Gary Kemp, Carolyn Quentin and Penny Smith all told me how fantastic the winning book was. They all cried apparently. Anyway the book is "A Scattering" by Christopher Reid. I have it and will give it a go.
Now. yesterdays suggestion of a Wah Wah Wednesday instantly sounded like a fine idea. So thanks to Andy for thinking of it. Now you just have to suggest some hits to start the show. I've no idea how many there are but trust you all to find them...
Plus if you'd like to play "Pontunes" on the show or have a burning homework question you need an answer to then contact us.
E-mail [email protected] Also on Facebook and Twitter.
School run complete, first coffee almost complete and Ken just starting. Not a bad start to the day really. We had a game in the car-who complains first about the sunroof being open? Its fun, you should try it. And then see who is off sick first with a raging cold.
Knackered again after recording the penultimate "Act Your Age" for Radio 4 at the Comedy Cafe in Shoreditch last night. Tom O'Connor was on the oldies team and was fantastic, every bit as sharp as he ever was. And a great performance too from fellow scouser John Bishop. Show two goes out tonight but clashes with Drivetime so, if I may be so bold, catch up on iplayer later. Thanks.
Today we welcome Peter Serafinowicz on after 6, just confirmed as Paul McCartney in a remake of "Yellow Submarine", and yes of course he will be asked to repeat that awesome Terry Wogan impression of his.
Plus as you can never have too much alliteration, lets have a trumpet Tuesday! Hits with the trumpet for song 1 please.
See you at 5...

"Monday Monday, so good to me. Monday Monday it was all I dreamed it would be" sang the Mamas and the Papas in 1966 and as the rain thrashes down on a cold and gloomy day here, you might feel moved to differ and that we need some Californian sun very soon. In fact I feel moved to suggest to someone important at the BBC that we should have a Drivetime cruise together, ending up in Monterey and go surfing. I can't imagine there'll be a problem, see you on the games deck for quoits and tequila at 6.
While we are waiting for that to happen, lets get on with the show. Terms and conditions require our opening song to feature a double bass if you please. Slap it , pluck it or bow it but just get me some double bass hits pdq! Might be rockabilly time but over to you.
Also today after 6 we have comedian Rhys Thomas star of Bellamy's People of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland after its debut this weekend.
And Matt and Rebecca and Sally and you from 5...

Very little sleep=hyperactive shows. Can't promise I wont be speaking gibberish by 7pm. Not making a lot of sense already, the lady who served me coffee couldn't understand a word I said. It must be me. If I start to dribble you will tell me?
Lots to do...Sade first to record an interview with her about her first new album in 10 years. Presumably she has lots to say, will report back.
Then to 5Live for 2 hours of movie chat with Dr Mark Kemode. Simon Schama joins us from New York and Precious director Lee Daniels.
And finally...to the glorious start to the weekend that is ARF. All request Friday from 5. It really is such a great end to Friday. And everyone seems to have extraordinary weekends planned. Must dedicate a song to all those who have a dull one planned. Leave your opening songs below. Anything you like as long as it's big and brash.
Might just have time for a power nap now.
We'll get to that in moment.
Rock and Chips was one of yesterdays subjects with "Only Fools" writer John Sullivan and Fish and Chips is one of today's subjects with the lovely Nigel Barden. No idea what he plans to do with it however. Isn't it always easier to use your local chippie? If you suddenly fancy a saveloy for example, what's a poor home cooker to do? And doesn't it taste better out of paper in the first (ahem) plaice? Nigel on after 6 today...
There's a great Half Man Half Biscuit song called 'Restless Legs' about all those who just can't stop waggling their legs. It's annoying for everyone else if course as whole cinema rows can tremble once this really takes hold. But if you have to waggle that leg, everyone else just has to get used to the vibrations. And I have, as you might have guessed, full blown restless leg syndrome. And it's particularly bad at the moment. I'm hoping it is a sign of an active creative mind, ceaselessly turning over ideas and concepts. But it might just be a glorified twitch and I need sedation. Does anyone else suffer with this? Cures please...
And terms and conditions just released pronounce todays instrument of desire is the Kettledrum. Or Kettle Drum. Or indeed Timpani. Opening songs with timps please!

Now it has to be said that the tuba was a challenge. A wonderful instrument but not featuring on that many hits. So let's go mainstream and feature one of THE great sounds of jazz gospel and rock 'n' roll. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Hammond Organ. Maybe we'll get to the other organs someday but the Hammond is a work of genius. So an opening song please with a Hammond to the fore. Over to you, leave suggestions below.
Also today the man behind "Only Fools and Horses", writer John Sullivan is my guest after 6. There's a Trotters prequel called "Rock & Chips" on Sunday and it's stuffed full of great old rock 'n' roll hits.
And "Homework Sucks!" is there for the work you can't do on your own. E-mail me or use the H.S. page on this site. Yesterday's question about the world turning slower was a corker and thanks to the astrophysicist student who came on with an answer. Nothing is too difficult for that most creative search engine, the Radio 2 Drivetime audience.
See you at 5...

Tuesday 19th January and we are lining up some rock 'n' roll songs with tubas please to start the show. This in honour of our guest after 6, legendary producer Tony Visconti. The tuba was one of the first instruments he played when he was in a brass band so it would be rude not to really. I feel some Danny Kaye coming on. But this might be a tough one. Any hits including Tubas please?
Bob Harris gets in touch to say he sang on a David Bowie song produced by Tony Visconti on the Space Oddity album. Will Tony remember which one?
Also today we'll be talking about magical assistants after Paloma Faith yesterday revealed her past as 'Miss Direction' with lots of sparkly pointing. The video of Paloma playing on yesterday's show is up and ready for you to enjoy:

Plus an interesting radio dilemma for my Mum today. At 6.30 today on Radio 4 my comedy panel game 'Act Your Age' starts again. 2 or 4? My advice-listen live to Radio 2 then catch up on the iplayer.
Get in touch with us [email protected] or leave a message below.
Blimey week 2 already. Hope you all had a fine weekend. Child number 2 has a GCSE Drama exam today so ours was not quite as relaxing as yours I imagine.
A foggy Monday here so lets brighten it all up with accordion hits to start the show. You can't beat a good squeezebox and some of my favourite music will have bellows in there somewhere. If you ever get the chance to witness the playing of someone like Andy Cutting you should drop everything and watch genius at work.
Paloma Faith plays live tonight as well after 6 which I'm really looking forward to. I haven't met her before but everyone raves about her and her er, eccentricity. So listen out for Paloma and her band today.
"Pontunes" and "Homework Sucks" back as well. And all the children who voice the HS jingle are now asking to be paid. I'm hoping to get away with a bag of fudge each.
Get in touch below or email me at [email protected].
All request Friday returns today! The end of a memorable week for everyone here so we mark the beginning of the weekend with 2 hours of your requests and weekend plans. And the opening record is up to you. No restrictions, no instrument specifications, just a big old driving wheel tapping hit.
Leave your suggestions below and we will pick our favourite later.
Before all that I'm doing 2 hours of movies with Mark Kermode on 5Live with John Hurt as our guest. Then its on to the taxibike and off to R2 to be on at 5pm sharp.
What could possibly go wrong?
Thursdays opening song. The terms and conditions are out. A big hit needed of course and with a GONG somewhere. Usually seem to go at the start or finish but frankly as long as there's a gong in it I don't care. It can be a flat gong, a paiste symphonic gong or a nipple gong (yes really). It isn't, I accept, a classic rock 'n' roll instrument, but I'm sure you'll rise to the challenge. Over to you.
Nigel B is back today doing extraordinary things with Duck A L'Orange. If you have a great idea for a classic dish for Nigel to prepare let us know. You can do it on this site of course. And let us know all about your favourite culinary tip - maybe something which has been handed down through generations.
And do get in touch for homework sucks if you're stumped by anything your kids are asking. Though to be honest we can cope with anyone's homework, whether it has come from kids or not!
See you at 5.

If I set out now I might make it in for Drive at 5. School run was indeed abandoned so joy for youngest child who will doubtless be throwing ice and snow down my neck before I finish this post. Attendance in the studio is compulsory as Timothy B Schmit from The Eagles is playing live in the studio after 6. This a very rare thing indeed so treasure the moment. His album "Expando" is full of the sort of harmonies you would expect. Featured voices include Dwight Yoakam, Kid Rock and Graham Nash. He'll perform a track from the album live and has a very original idea for The Great British Songbook.
Also tonight's opening record terms and conditions. Big noisy hit of course and with a Saxophone featured prominently please. Easy today huh?

Meant to mention earlier that the Amy Macdonald video is now up and looks great. Hoping to let you watch live soon but this is a fine start. The drummer is certainly the most energetic one there!
Phew. First show is always a very stressed place to be. The second show, by comparison, is a doddle (famous last words etc), but we all loved finally getting on the air and look forward to it all becoming very normal.
Today's show will feature a chat with the wonderful Ray Winstone who is in about 6 films this year starting with "Sex and Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll" and "44 Inch Chest". Ray's on after 6.
Today's opening record chosen by you please! Terms and conditions apply as they do to every walk of life here. So 1: it has be a blistering hit and 2: it has to feature a trombone.
Over to you!
Well that's not quite right but at least we get to do a show today. Five hours sleep isn't great but will have to do and is 5 hours more than Chris got last night. Thought the new breakfast was perfectly judged, a very fine debut indeed.
There'll be lots you recognize and a few things you don't but we'll stumble through together. First record is selected and is the greatest opener of all time and will surprise NOBODY. After today however, it'll be down to you to choose the 1st song but there will be conditions attached-details tomorrow.
Amy MacDonald plays live after 6 too with her new single and a track for our Great British Songbook. Think its going to be a fine old Paul Weller tune
Tune in at 5 and get in touch via [email protected] and you can also find me on Twitter go to Twitter.com and follow @simonmayo.
Anyone else starting anew job today?
So we're finally underway on Monday. It feels as if the show has had the gestation period of an elephant. But at last we are at the point of no return and hoping for a smooth run into next week. I woke this morning feeling nervous for the first time and have already apologised to my family if I'm too stressed this weekend. They'll understand and just look busy as I wander from room to room muttering, twitching and rearranging the furniture.
It promises to be a fairly extraordinary week at 2 with a new breakfast and drive show happening on the same day. Don't think thats happened before. Bumped into the debonaire Jeremy Vine this morning who is off next week ! A wise man indeed.
If you fancy taking part in a new game we are running (called Pontunes but that doesn't really explain much) we'd love to hear from you. It'll be just for the fun and glory of it all and all you have to is be by a phone on Monday. And sound thrilled to be on.
Email me at [email protected] with your phone number and details about yourself if you fancy it and who knows you may be the one we call. You can email me stuff there anyway and look forward to sharing Drive with you from Monday
Always good to see a camera crew outside Radio 2. Thank heavens they've realised what an interesting week this is. 2 new shows being created in one building! At the same time! No wonder they wanted pictures of the comings and goings. They must have had so many questions for us as we hurried past, shrouded in our travel rugs. "Who's in your meetings today Chris?" "Tell us more about Rebecca Fox the Fox Simon" or "Which Bruce Springsteen song are you going to start with Simon, or can we guess and it'll refer to Wendy somewhere?".
It would have been SO nice to stop and chat with them about all these things but we all had courses to go on so couldn't stop.
Maybe we should speak with them tomorrow. I'm sure they'll still be there.
Its the moment that every parent dreads. Your child returns from school with a mighty tough piece of homework, they need help and so obviously it's you they turn to. You are the obvious choice. You have been the source of knowledge all their life-why wouldn't they ask you? The only problem is you have no idea what they are talking about. At all.
So step forward Homework Sucks! from your new Drivetime show on Radio 2. Everyday we will be here for you. We are here to help. If you have an ongoing homework conundrum-French, Geography, History or Astrophysics, we want to know about it. Sure you can use google but why not try the wisdom of the Radio 2 audience (insert your joke of choice here) first? There's wisdom and experience in them thar hills...
You could be first on on Monday. Tell us the homework problem. We'll suffer with you.
email [email protected]
Thanks for all the advice about my desk share. It turns out he's called Jim and he has now cleared some space for me. I now have a shelf. Thanks Jim.
New show starts Monday and meetings all day doing what meetings do best. One feature we'd like to do involves you sending me an email with (as you might have guessed) a song that changed your life. In any way. We'd need the story, the song and your phone number.
It might be a relationship, a job, a gig, anything that has a cracking tale attached.
The email is [email protected] and you'd be telling your story on air at 6.40. But timings may alter...
Look forward to hearing from you.
And it's true about my ears.
Well here it was at last. First day at Radio2, one week away from launch day. Your new drive show starts on the 11th but there were jingles to listen to, live music to talk through and blog instructions to follow. If you're reading this, that last one has worked at least.
My excitement is tempered only by the fact that my NEW desk in my NEW office for my NEW job is shared with some guy who only comes in on Fridays. He has however colonised all available shelves, drawers and floor space leaving me with, well, a chair basically. There will need to be words. By Thursday.
More discussions tomorrow and will tell you about some of the new features we are hoping to introduce to the show next Monday. They will need to go before many BBC committees of course to be tested for corporate soundness and if pronounced clean and decent, they're in.
And we'll need to get our first song discussion underway. But until then...
