It's Tuba time!
Tuesday 19th January and we are lining up some rock 'n' roll songs with tubas please to start the show. This in honour of our guest after 6, legendary producer Tony Visconti. The tuba was one of the first instruments he played when he was in a brass band so it would be rude not to really. I feel some Danny Kaye coming on. But this might be a tough one. Any hits including Tubas please?
Bob Harris gets in touch to say he sang on a David Bowie song produced by Tony Visconti on the Space Oddity album. Will Tony remember which one?
Also today we'll be talking about magical assistants after Paloma Faith yesterday revealed her past as 'Miss Direction' with lots of sparkly pointing. The video of Paloma playing on yesterday's show is up and ready for you to enjoy:

The tuba is played by Nick Hitchens, who has also played for Tori Amos and is on the Bourne Soundtrack. The song starts of with just the tuba playing and the instrument can be heard all the way through. DO NOT TALK OVER THE FIRST FEW BARS!!! It is a real foot stomper. Love the show.

Other than that the only song I can think of is Tuba-lar Bells ...

If Bellowhead haven't had a 'hit' yet, it's because they tend to be narrowly pigeonholed as folk rather than their blend of "folk, jazz, classical, disco and world music influences with English Music Hall and cabaret"*, and only given radio play on folk programs. Was hoping you might correct that!

With my suggestion of "Red Shoes" by "Chris Rea", while not released as a single, the album did reach the No. 1 spot. It is the only song suggested so far that features the tuba as the main driving instrument from start to finish. And who better to start drive time than the man whose passion for driving can be heard in everything he records? Love the show.
