Later...
Wrap up well, bloggers! A cold snap (or 'winter' as it's known) is upon us and the bun-fight at the glove and scarf counter is testament to that. And that we've lost precisely one glove since last year. It might even be time for those of us who look foolish in all hats to brave the sneers of our friends and family and don some kind of head gear to keep the heat in. All my family look great in hats, but I sadly an only get away with Lenin/American army/60s folkie style cap and even then small children laugh and point at me in the street. But I don't want get the flu so I will cope with the embarrassment. If you hear someone shout "Is that a Russian revolutionary, Gen Petraeus or Tom Paxton?" it'll probably be me.
And I'm hastening to work. And it's The Hobbit first thing! The first of the new Peter Jackson trilogy awaits this morning/afternoon and I'm hoping it's a belter. I'm watching for work but it's the movie we have booked for child 3's birthday trip to the cinema with chums at the weekend which will be followed by that spicy chicken place. So I have it twice in six days! Go Hobbit.
Then a top Drivetime with Jools Holland! Some live tunes with Jools at the Elton John piano and Ruby Turner at the mic. He starts and closes our show everyday so it's always good to get some complete Jools songs away and you can hear him and Ruby tonight.
And for the tunes, with two more weeks till the big day, we'll start the Yule-theme going with OFFICE PARTY oldies. Who knows if they still happen in the way tradition dictates - maybe it's just a bowl of peanuts and a cup of tea these days.
But you know what's expected...
Have a well-budgeted and well-balanced Monday, see you after 5.

The Hobbit, well, I think if you loved The Lord of the Rings trilogy, you won't be able to get enough of this, but I fear it'll be Peter Jackson making mountains out of Hobbit holes again, so to speak. I may watch on DVD in instalments, as I did with LotRs, but otherwise, no thanks!

I've never read the Hobbit, not too surprising as I'm not much of a reader. What is surprising (to me more than anyone) is that I HAVE read LOTR in full (I still don't know how). Somehow the film, which stuck very well to the book, just didn't do it for me. It somehow lacked suspense and atmosphere for me. I've seen parts of all 3 LOTR segments, but haven' watched any all the way through. I suspect I won't be rushing out to the Hobbit either.
Having said all that, I'm sure it will be hugely popular and successful, with good cause, do doubt.

I don't really 'do' hats either, except for walking the dogpoppet. Apart from looking sill I have quite a small head (probably speaks volumes..) and find it difficult to get a hat to fit me. The beany I don for walkies insists on sitting on top of my head in the manner of Blackadder's hat in the original series - no matter how many times I pull it down over my ears it keeps riding up.

Weekend watching was The Hunger Games - I didn’t read the books until this year - I thought they were fantastic, I read all three in one long weekend and then listened to them all as audiobooks. It is a superb story really well told. The film of the first book works really well too. Jennifer Lawrence is splendid and it is impossible it imagine anyone else in the role. Highly recommended as they say. Lots of killing - children and animals - but it is never gory and always essential to the story. I would read the book before watching the film. Even knowing what was going to happen and having seen the film in the cinema I was still holding my breath for 2 hours.
I look ok in hats (she says modestly) expect for when I don’t. I have one that makes me look like a gnome. Having said that friends call me names when I’m wearing certain hats so maybe I look daft after all. And whoever has my favourite red gloves please give them back!
Weekend reading was Island of Wings by Karin Attenberg. Set on St Kilda in the 1830’s it is an interesting story essentially about living on the edge of the world and the clash between the inhabitants pagan believes and a new minister religious zeal. Lots about the local sea birds which might interest some of you here.
Florence - did you enjoy Runrig? I’ve not seen them in years and not since Donnie left.

I'm sure the hip and trendy young things on the Radio 1 site would much prefer this layout and colour scheme and we can have our cosy, more gentle site back. We are a talkative bunch, and 20 posts per page doesn't even cover it! ;-)

I agree with the posts on the revamp, horrible and not user friendly at all. Unfortunately this is the house style for all BBC blogs now, so I think any protests are likely to fall on deaf ears. We will just have to learn to live with it, as we did when it changed from 500 posts per page and no 3 min delay!
Cheers

Such is the way of the Beeb's complaints department on matters of this nature.
Talking of complaints, the times reported on Saturday that Sky have accepted that viewers hate the credits scrunching up (it's rude to those who are listed) and have pledged to stop doing it. The Times then put the ball firmly back in the terrestrial channels' court to follow suit. We shall see. No word on whether Sky's change means they will also stop tallking over the credits.

The Football League's template designs for the clubs have also introduced that this season. You sometimes need to make 3 clicks after opening a story to be able to read the whole thing. It's bizarre.

I now feel really old. Not sure I can do this very often.
I know things change and people usually moan when they do but get used to it eventually but this hurts and, as everyone else has said, conversation is nigh on impossible when restricted to 20 posts per page.
Please Mr Blogmeddler, if you must change the layout can you make it something less painful and more user friendly?
Thank you.

Nope, no success - a pale pink box has appeared. I think there might be some white writing on it but I can't read it. Presumably it's telling me that I can't post until after 3 minutes after my last post which was #89 10 minutes ago because my last one failed. I could be wrong, I can't read it so don't know.
