Finally, may I express my sadness at the passing of Billie's small furry friend. I've been there, too, and it leaves a large hole in your life. As long as you are left feeling that the animal in question had a happy life, then you can be satisfied you did all that you could. I'm pleased to see you were able to look back over many happy times together - that's how it should be.

Home for lunch. Talk all croaked through and even managed to raise a few laughs with the audience.

Please excuse me, haven't read back today and I'm not hanging around - need to go and sort out a Teen Berry in a pickle, but I wanted to send a message to Rebecca Pike. Not sure whether she reads this or if anyone will be able to pass it on to her. I have been listening back to Monday's show and wanted to say that I totally agree with her comments on 'Wonder' by R J Palacio. I hadn't thought to recommend it to my boys, but, interestingly, when I went to the library with them before we went on holiday in the summer, my 10 yr old found it in the 'Teens' section, not in the normal 'grown up' Fiction area. The library lady said that they had seen it not to be an adult book. I enjoyed it. Will encourage him to read it now.

#64 we woke up to snow - suprised as we had no gritting or salting on the estate hence the bus refused to come to us, as it's got some tight bends and lots of cars either side of the road...so had to trudge to the main road - and when I came into the centre of Oxford, NO sign of snow at all!! We are up a hill and a bit exposed to the elements.

The brussel sprouts I gave the Old Man for dinner played havoc with his insides last night so he spent most of it awake and was late getting up and going to London - and is having to work late to make it up - this is an official SPROUT warning.

You may remember I picked up GoodChild#2 from Gatwick on Monday. It turns out he lost his wallet on the trip, and to cut a long story short it has been handed in at Gatwick Lost Property (he was unpacking his bag in the baggage hall as one of his friends asked him to carry some stuff for him in his bag on the way back....parental sigh, that's another conversation we need to have with him). Anyway, I digress.



The helpful lady at Gatwick said they can courier the wallet back to us - minimum fee £18.



"What about Royal Mail?" Computer says no.



Or we can pick it up any time in the next 3 months (while trying to calculate in my head the cost of petrol there and back vs train ticket)



"And if you choose that option it will only be subject to our £5 handling fee"



"What's that for?" he asked naively.



(Cue "just Philadelphia" blonde voice) "Well, one of our database operators does have to log it into our system and apply a label to the item with a clear description of what it is"

He said I was right to question it and said I was the only person who had doubted him that day, but as he was able to tell me a couple of direct debits, I believed who he was!

I've been absent today, due to going to see twin 1's school Christmas Pantomime, they performed 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat'. It was an inspiring afternoon, to see all those children with various severe disabilities, putting on such a great show. I was in awe of how well they had learned their lines and all of the songs, and was damp of eye on more than one occasion! Our boy only had a minor role as a dancer, but they all worked so hard, it was magic.



Thanks to Gin Girl All The Way and Holly Berry for their birthday wishes for my nan. :-) She's still not feeling too good, but reaching 99 is quite something, so hopefully she'll be up to a small celebration.



No snow here, but it's nippy, and slippy!

Well, we've escaped the snow here, its only a few miles away, but we have the advantage of being on the right side of the hills.



I've just nipped to the local shop for a few bits and bobs, ice cream strangely enough is one item. They only had RED SPROUTS!! What the 'ecky thump is all that about?

#82 Sal, were you at Humbie, which is a short ride from me? I can remember when Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs got married in Humbie church!



I know there are some nice beaches around the Bristol channel, but mostly pebbly apart from over the other side at Burnham, Weston etc. Our beach is lovely on a summer's day, very clean as the council clean the seaweed away first thing every day in the warmer months but not this time of the year. It's nice to walk along even in the winter and is very sociable with the dog walkers who are often the only people to venture out when it is cold.

I'll be listening to the last half-hour in the car because I'm about to get ready to go and see June Tabor and Oysterband, whom I first heard Simon recommend when he often played their songs and praised their Ragged Kingdom album.... then I saw them receive five BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and liked them a lot.
