The organ entertains...
Now it has to be said that the tuba was a challenge. A wonderful instrument but not featuring on that many hits. So let's go mainstream and feature one of THE great sounds of jazz gospel and rock 'n' roll. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Hammond Organ. Maybe we'll get to the other organs someday but the Hammond is a work of genius. So an opening song please with a Hammond to the fore. Over to you, leave suggestions below.
Also today the man behind "Only Fools and Horses", writer John Sullivan is my guest after 6. There's a Trotters prequel called "Rock & Chips" on Sunday and it's stuffed full of great old rock 'n' roll hits.
And "Homework Sucks!" is there for the work you can't do on your own. E-mail me or use the H.S. page on this site. Yesterday's question about the world turning slower was a corker and thanks to the astrophysicist student who came on with an answer. Nothing is too difficult for that most creative search engine, the Radio 2 Drivetime audience.
See you at 5...

Excellent stuff.
Equally excellent of course is "Gimme some loving" by The Spencer Davis group. Winwood at his finest. Please give us a bit of rock. (Cheesy link here to John Sullivan, but I couldn't quite engineer the chips in there.)

Alternatively anything by "Rod Argent" of "The Zombies" and of course "Argent", such as "Argent's God gave Rock and Roll to you", (about time Russ Ballard had more radio play) or "Colin Blunstone singing She's not there". Failing that, anything by Georgie Fame.
I think it would be a little to obvious to go down the route of "Whiter Shade of Pale". Love the show.

Altogether more cerebral than previous incumbent's brand but still engagingly nutty. Don't get me wrong - I was and am still a huge fan of Chris Evans and have reorganised my mornings to accommodate his brand of Brekkie - but am SO glad you got to keep The Fox and her clever chuckly voice.
Back to the matter in hand ...
Was privileged to see The Zombies in all their original glory in Southampton end of 2009 - Colin B of course but more notably ROD ARGENT with an outrageously full head of long hair and still retaining that awfully naice English accent. But what really rocked was - you've guessed it! Hammondtastic!
So my vote goes to 'Hold Your Head Up' - Argent - or as previous poster suggested, pretty well anything by The Zombies - one of the most underrated bands of the 60s.

Having composed the theme music to 'Citizen Smith', 'Just Good Friends', 'Dear John', 'Only Fools & Horses' and 'The Green Green Grass' did the great man compose anything for 'Sitting Pretty', 'Heartburn Hotel', 'Over Here', or 'Roger Roger'? Did he compose anything for 'The Two Ronnies' and what can we expect for 'Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n Chips' musically?
Is there a "John Sullivan's' greatest hits album out soon?
Did he ever wish he had written the 1970's Australian TV series 'The Sullivans'?
