Mandula has improved year after year since turning professional in 1993 and is seeded in a Grand Slam for the first time at the French Open. The 26-year-old has yet to win a singles title on the main WTA Tour but has won seven doubles titles with various partners.
After breaking into the top 100 for the first time at the end of 1999, Mandula went on to become the first Hungarian to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final in Paris two years later.
That remains the high point of her career to date, although making the last 16 without dropping a set last year confirmed her liking for Roland Garros.
This year has been disrupted by injuries but she made the quarter-finals on clay in Charleston and Budapest before injury struck in April.
A shoulder problem caused her to retire from her second-round match against Maria Sharapova in Berlin last month and she withdrew from Rome the following week.
