Davenport remains a fixture in the world's top five despite injury problems that led to speculation she was set to retire at the end of 2003. The American has a long-term foot injury which is likely to end her career eventually, but it has not hampered her so far in what could be her final year on the circuit.
In the first four months of the year she won two titles and lost just four matches, three of which were to Justine Henin-Hardenne.
And, although the foot problem is a concern, Davenport has never been one of the tour's most agile players.
The 27-year-old excels in hitting the ball relentlessly hard and flat, making her opponents do the running around, and has the experience of being a three-time Grand Slam winner.
However, the one major title Davenport is missing is the French Open and she will do well to match her best effort of a semi-final appearance back in 1998.
