At 30 years old, Raymond is one of the veterans of women's tennis, and yet she is enjoying some of her best form in singles. In January, the American made the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for only the second time at the Australian Open, and she reached the final in Memphis a month later.
But clay is not her best surface and results have been disappointing since American hard-courts were left behind in April.
Although she has won four singles titles and has regularly been inside the world's top 20, Raymond has enjoyed her best moments on the doubles court.
She won the mixed doubles title at last year's French Open to claim her seventh Grand Slam doubles title and 42nd in all.
It is seven years since Raymond's only appearance in the last 16 of the singles at Roland Garros.
