After establishing herself as the world number one in doubles, Suarez turned her attention to singles in 2003. The 27-year-old enjoyed her best year ever, claiming her third career singles title in Vienna and making her second Grand Slam quarter-final appearance at the US Open.
Her doubles record remained formidable as, alongside Virginia Ruano Pascual, she finished runner-up in the year's first three Grand Slams before winning the US Open and the Tour Championships.
The singles success has continued this year, with the Argentine claiming another title in Canberra and beating Nadia Petrova in Berlin before losing to Venus Williams.
At her happiest on clay, there is every reason to think Suarez could match her best effort at Roland Garros of a quarter-final place.
