The Italian will be looking for a strong performance at Roland Garros after some encouraging form in recent weeks. At her happiest on clay, Schiavone has disappointed at the French Open since reaching the quarter-finals in 2001.
But a victory over Amelie Mauresmo on her way to the last four in Warsaw last month, followed by a place in the last eight in Rome will have given her a huge boost.
She is not far off her highest ever ranking of 15, achieved in February, and has only to get past the second round to improve on last year's effort in Paris.
There were signs last year that the clay-court specialist had added something to her game as she had her best results on hard-courts.
A quarter-final place at the US Open was the highlight but Schiavone is still searching for a first tour title.
