A powerful and consistent striker of the ball from the baseline, strong off both sides and an impressive athlete, Bovina fits the model of the young Russian player. At 6ft 2in, she is a daunting opponent and her height makes the serve particularly potent.
With two career titles already, there is no reason why Bovina should not be at the head of the Russian pack in the years to come.
However, inconsistency proved a problem last year and the 21-year-old still suffers unexpected defeats too often.
This year Bovina has made just one quarter-final and has lost to the likes of Claudine Schaul and Marta Marrero along the way.
Her record at Roland Garros is poor and it is time for a first appearance in the fourth round.
