What is bullying?

Description

Several children provide an introduction to bullying. They explore two types of bullying - emotional bullying where victims are excluded or targeted with unkind remarks and physical bullying which includes violence. The children explain the effects it has on them and how it makes them feel.

Classroom Ideas

The question from this clip, ‘What is bullying?’ could be written on the board, and each student given a sticky note on which to write their response. Students could then share their responses as they stick these onto the board.

Give the students cards with a number of bullying behaviour scenarios written on them. Students could be asked to work in small groups to put these in order of severity. Groups could then compare their orders, and consider the differences. Students could discuss why different people have a different perception of what is serious bullying, and how the things we may do for fun could be very hurtful to others.

Students could write a poem as part of an anti-bullying campaign which could be used as part of a presentation on bullying during a school assembly.
