Kuerten may be down in the middle of the seedings, but no-one will fancy facing him at his beloved Roland Garros.
Three times a winner, Kuerten has shown his affection for the place by drawing a heart in the famous red clay.
Kuerten's first victory came in 1997 when he became the second lowest ranked player ever to claim a Grand Slam title.
On the way he beat three former champions in a shock win, and added further titles in 2000 and 2001.
But Kuerten suffered an injury-riddled season in 2002, and slipped from the top of the world rankings.
He has slowly been working his way back up, and this season has reached two finals, winning in Auckland.
While Kuerten is no longer the undisputed king of clay his record at Roland Garros speaks for itself, and it would be a brave man who bet against him making it four French Open titles before the end of his career.
