Corretja arrives at Roland Garros more of an outsider for the title than usual after a poor start to 2003.
A quarter-final place in Scottsdale is the only result of note so far for the Spaniard, and the man once ranked number two in the world is slowly sliding down the rankings.
Corretja certainly has the pedigree with 16 career titles, and two runners-up finishes at Roland Garros.
An impressive career just lacks a major title, but at the age of 29 it is possible that Corretja's best years are behind him.
However, it is not that long since he was at the top of his game, as two titles picked up on clay in Switzerland last year and a semi-final place at Roland Garros testify.
And if Corretja is to find his form, and with it Grand Slam success, it is likely to come at the French Open.
